The girl lives to learn and isn't that the point?

Where did I find Shaye this past Saturday morning? Curled up in a corner, "secretly" reading Brielle's (6th grade) Science textbook. A chapter about the Solar System. Once she was "discovered", she had about a hundred questions- what's a probe, why can't we visit Mars if we can visit the moon, etc., etc.- I told her to keep reading. ;) Later, I see her "sneak" by with paper and colored pencils. Not too long after that, she shows me this...

and tells me, "I know it's Saturday but I really wanted to do some school". I guess one of my homeschooling goals should be to get her out of the school system's frame of mind that learning is something you do at school- on a schedule.

I love this post!

This is my first year to "officially" homeschool my daughter. (She is in Kindergarten.) I am trying to learn and remember that her learning does not just take place from 9 am to noon, M - F...but happens all of the time...including weekends. :-)

Dawn- I know right? We can't feed her the books fast enough. Between library runs and Barnes & noble- she's going through probably 25 a week( and quite a few of those are CHAPTER books!) - not including the books she reads Mackenna outloud.

:) Thanks for stopping by mylittlesoapbox :D We're mutual readers - so Happy Delurk Day!!

We just had a conversation today about how we don't have "no school" days here. That learning can and will happen everyday. (also I should note that this is in respect/context to our current mission of finding a balance between too much wii and no wii :D)

I just want to say I wasn't in a corner- I was at the kitchen table while Brielle was eating breakfast. And that is exactly what I did.
