pumpkins

Every day in my travels, I pass a house whose small, sloping backyard is completely filled with an above ground pool. The owners have very cleverly made the most of the small strip of land in the front of their home, along the side of their driveway- planting myriad plants, flowers...

and...

vegetables!

That small patch of pumpkins is so unexpected, it catches my eye every time I drive by. Not only am I inspired to plant some pumpkins next year- I'm totally obsessed with finding an unexpected place to plant them too.

I love pumpkins too and they do make a garden look very colorful. Unfortunately too big for our backyard though 'cause it's tiny! :)

Every year I say that I'm going to try to plant pumpkins and every year I forget until it's past planting time. Probably better off for the pumpkins since I'm a horrible gardener. Doesn't keep me from having pumpkin envy though.

I know nothing about growing anything- city girl, born and raise- and neither did the people who lived here before us, but I drive through this neighborhood and I am inspired to have a pretty and fun outdoor space. John and I have decided to work on the yard next year, so I have some time to read up!

we accidentally grew pumpkins in my flower pots this year. I think it's going to be tradition!
